Ways to Enter Cambodia

With the goal of making tourism become the key economic sector, in recent years, Cambodia has heavily invested in infrastructure. In addition, Cambodia has favorable location, sharing border with Thailand, Laos and Vietnam which makes up various way to enter this country.


By airway

Cambodia has 2 international airports at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. There are many international direct flights from China (Beijing), France (Paris), Hongkong, South Korea (Incheon), Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Singapore, Taiwan (Taipei), Thailand (Bangkok) and Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City) to Phnom Penh. In Siem Reap International Airport, there are direct flights from Laos (Pakse, Vientiane), Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur), Singapore, South Korea (Incheon, Busan), Thailand (Bangkok) and Vietnam (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City). Visitors who specifically go to Cambodia for visiting Angkor temple ruins often prefer Siem Reap International Airports because it is only few kilometers far away from the sites.

By waterway

The Mekong River crosses over Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam which create various ways to enter Cambodia by waterway. It takes only 90 minutes from Champasak (Laos) to Stung Treng (Cambodia) by speedboat. From Vietnam, it takes 5 hours from Chau Doc in Mekong Delta to Phnom Penh by fast boats.

By road

There are six borders crossing between Thailand and Cambodia which open from 7.00 to 20.00.  All the crossings offer Cambodia visas on arrival.  Poipet on the Bangkok – Siem Reap is the Cambodia’s busiest land crossing because this way also leads to Siem Reap, Battambang and Phnom Penh. To enter Coastal Cambodia and the southern part of Elephant Mountains region, it’s necessary to pass Hat Lek border which leads to Sihanoukville and then Phnom Penh. From Vietnam, the main crossing is the Moc Bai crossing on the Ho Chi Minh City – Phnom Penh road. Travelling between these two cities takes about 6 hours. Another way is from Ha Tien in Vietnam to Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh in Cambodia by passing Xa Via border. From Laos, Stung Treng in Cambodia and Pakse in Laos are connected by the Voeung Kam border.
