Situated 25 km to the north of Siem Reap, on the road to the Bantey Srey temple, the garden was founded and sponsored by a Scottish researcher who loves learning about the behavior of butterflies. It is an interesting stop and becomes increasingly popular with locals and foreign visitors. The Butterfly Garden was created with the ideal environmental conditions to attract butterflies and moths to lay eggs, especially the colorful flower garden. Butterflies commonly feed on the nectar of flowers; however, a number of ¨butterfly houses¨ was constructed to supply water and food items and adequately assure best conditions for the life cycle of butterflies. The manager of the garden also grows native plants- the favorite food of some rare or threatened butterflies to preserve them.
The Butterfly Garden is really a creative and effective plan to increase the amount of butterfly while they are gradually fewer because of predators or the destruction of the environment leading to lack of food and change climate. This site is not only an ideal biological research area where provides an interactive and intuitive environment to look over butterflies but also the great playing place for visitors, especially children in the holidays or weekends. You can see thousands beautiful butterflies fluttering around the romantic garden or take some pictures as a memorable commemoration. This is another attraction along with The Angkor complex making the spectacular beauty of Siem Reap that you should not miss when traveling to there.
